We found a fascinating article about Milton entitled "Williamson Schools problems near same" giving a number of details about this past commander. 

Article quote: "After graduating from Bethesda High, Lillard served in the Navy during World War II.  When he returned, he attended Peabody College for Teachers where he earned his bachelor of science degree and later his master's degree.  In 1949 he began teaching math and social studies at Bethesda School.  He spent about 12 years at Hillsboro School as a teacher and principal before becomign superintendent.

While he was still in high school Lillard met Geneva Baker.  They married in 1947."

At different points he served as Williamson County Schools Superintendent (1968-1976), vice chairman of the Williamson County School Board, and director of Tennessee Vocational School Board.During his time as superintendent, five schools were constructed: Northside Junior High School, Page High School, Yates Vocational School, Scales Elementary School, and a new building for Nolensville Elementary School.

"In addition to his work in education, Lillard has been a Primitive Baptist pastor for 40 years, serving both the Cool Spring Primitive Baptist Church in Peytonsville and the Big Harpeth Primitive Baptist Church in Franklni, the oldest church in Williamson County."

Article quote: "Another interest of Lillard is the American Legion Post 22.  he is the commander of the post which is involved in trying to locate a veteran's nursing home retirement center in the area."

Milton passed away in December 23, 1987, at age 62 of an apparent heart attack.  He is buried in Cool Springs cemetery.
