The meeting was held at 7:00 pm at the Monroe County Courthouse on even date pertaining to the return of Post 106 property located at 326 Oakland Road. American Legion members attending the meeting were: National Executive Committeeman, Rolland Bradshaw; 2nd District Cmdr, Dennis Moldenhour; National Legislative Counsel, Ken Irvine; East TN Vice Cmdr, Marty Everett, Post 106 Cmdr, Billy Walker, Adj, Frances Brood-Weitzel, 2nd Vice Cmdr, Lona Buffham, Alt Adj/Secretary, Theresa Walker; Service Officer, Travis Paul, Sgts at Arms Bobby Wilson and Elborn Onley; and James Lenz. Dan Dare, Investigative Reportor-- WATE TV, Tommy Millsaps, Advocate and Democrat , and Mark Boring, The BUZZ were also in attendance and reported on the proceedings.
After discussion of reasons between American Legion members and the Commissioners for granting or not granting our request, the Commissioners voted unanimously to return the property to the Post. Judy Lee, whose husband was a POW during WWII, gave an impassioned plea to return the post to us, seconded by Roger Thomas. Captain Michael Bledsoe of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office requested occasional use of the building for training purposes as a part of the Emergency Response Team as granted to them by the previous Cmdrs for Post 106.
