On 28 September 2017 the Custer High School Student Council presented its first movie in the Custer Jr/Sr High School theater. To the delight of area youngsters, the movie was Disney's "Moana".
The movie theater experience for its young patrons (supervised by parents) was complete with admission line, concession treats (popcorn, pizza, and bottled water), and a suitably dark big-screen theater presentation with a fantastic sound system.
All this was made possible by the CHS Student Council's license to display other than first run movies and the school administration's desire to use its facilities to the fullest to benefit its students and community. The resulting monthly "Movie Night Adventure" program comes into perspective when one realizes Custer has not had a movie theater for decades. That means this was the first movie these children had seen in their "home town theater".
And they loved it! Excitement built while standing in the admission line. Hot popcorn vapor tripped a smoke sensor, keying flashing lights and alarms. Everyone evacuated the school (before the movie started). The Custer Volunteer Fire Department and Sheriff's Office arrived to give their "all safe for movies" seal of approval. Pizza was gobbled. Popcorn and bottle water was grabbed. And then it was the magic of show-time. A great night for the kids!
The premier was a success. The kids and their parents loved it. School officials were pleasantly surprised at the size of the premier crowd. The Student Council enjoyed the excitement and was happy with revenues from "admission" donations and the concession stand (which are used to pay for the display license). And plans are already in place for a Homecoming Night movie.
Custer Post #46 is proud to support the CHS Student Council "Movie Night Adventure" program. Our premier night donation to and promotion of the program are part of the post's youth program. Because our youth deserve that support!
