Custer City, SD, October 16, 2017– At 2 p.m. Thursday, November 9th, the Custer School District presented an hour-long Veterans Day program in the Custer City Armory.  For 23 years the program has been sponsored by the American Legion and completely run by students to honor area veterans.  It consisted of Civil Air Patrol flag posting, patriotic music performed by all classes, the band and the choir, POW/MIA ceremony, a guest speaker, remembrance of veterans deceased over the past year, individual recognition of each veteran in attendance by Custer Cub Scouts and the 6th Grade Class, and Civil Air Patrol flag retirement.  This year’s guest speaker was Hugh Holmes, Commander of the South Dakota Department of the American Legion.  Department Commander Holmes along with school and local officials gave interviews to local press and television following the program.

This large community event involved the entire school district and numerous community organizations.  It shows small town America at its patriotic best.  This is the America we remember!
