Six Custer County World War II veterans were recognized at a Monday, Dec. 7 program at the Custer Senior Center. Standing, from left, are Grant Muse, Harold Stickney, and Roy Roadifer. The event was sponsored by Custer Legion Post #46, Custer Senior Center, and Custer VFW Post #3442.
The Pear Harbor Day event remembered the Pearl Harbor attack and honored our WWII Veterans. The Senior Center was decorated as a WWII USO Canteen with WWII military memorabilia from the Custer Courthouse Museum. After a short remembrance program a holiday dinner was served to WWII Veterans and their guests.
All veterans received gifts of canteen cups filled with "C Ration" type items, a separate packet of toiletries and snacks reminiscent of basic issue items, and a book of western stories by a local author. Guests received a gaily wrapped chocolate truffle from the Custer County Candy Company. Both meals and gifts were delivered to those local WWII veterans who were homebound.
