Killed in a jeep accident in Paris
Milton W. Reisenweber was born on a farm near the town of Newark in Marshall County on August 21, 1921. Milton was the son of John and Millie Reisenweber. He was the youngest of three children, a sister Evelyn and a brother Mervin. Milton and his brother and sister all worked on the Reisenweber farm, which is 15 miles north of Britton. Although Milton didn't like farm work, he spent many hours helping his father with all the work that needed to be done.
Milton attended grade school in Newark and graduated from high school in Kidder, South Dakota. In Milton's sister Evelyn's words, "Milton was a tall, handsome, blonde man who was full of the dickens... and he had a darling girlfriend which made all the girls jealous. Milton was an outgoing man, but a real joker and popular fellow in school and out." After attending high school he spent a year in business school in Fargo, North Dakota.
When the war started, Mervin, who was a crop duster, joined the Army Air Corps and went to Arizona where he taught aviators to fly. Milton didn't like being on the farm and wanted to see the world, so when the war came along he joined up as an excuse to leave the farm. It was much against his father's wishes that he joined up, since Mervin was already in the military. While stationed in Paris, Milton was killed in a freak accident, when he was run over by a jeep.
It took his family two years and great expense to have Milton's body returned to Britton. His body is buried in the Britton Cemetery along with his brother Mervin.
