Clarence H. Wolf

Marshall County

Killed in Action in Italy
Clarence H. Wolf was born on the family farm 5 miles north and ¾ miles west of Britton, South Dakota, and near Kidder, South Dakota, on October 19, 1919, to Fritz and Ida Wolf. He had five siblings: Walter, Augusta, Mata, Alvin, and Irene. Clarence grew up on the farm, attended school in Kidder school for 12 years, and graduated with his sister Irene in May of 1937. He enjoyed working on the farm, and he was very close to his sister Irene. He was an easy and out-going person and was liked by everyone. From 1940-1941 A.O. Bonham in Britton employed Clarence. Clarence never married.
Clarence was inducted into the service on October 22, 1941, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Sergeant Wolf was stationed in Italy and was in Company F, 6th Armored Infantry Regiment. He left the United States for Foreign Service May 31,1942.
Sergeant Wolf was killed in action in Italy on January 5, 1944. His body was sent from Italy to the Britton Cemetery where he was buried. According to his sister Irene Wolf, Sergeant Wolf received a Purple Heart posthumously for his service in the war, but along with many letters from Sergeant Wolf, it burned in a fire at the family’s farmhouse near Britton and Kidder, South Dakota.
Sergeant Wolf’s only surviving family member is his sister Irene Wolf of Britton, South Dakota.
