Phillip P. Stands was born September 6, 1923, at Rosebud, South Dakota, to Charles and Lillian Stands by Him. From 1931 through 1943, Phillip was at the St. Francis School in St. Francis, South Dakota.
On June 18, 1943, Phillip Stands was inducted into military service at Fort Crook, Nebraska, and was transferred to the enlisted reserve corps. He reported for active duty at Fort Leavenwoth, Kansas, on July 2, 1943. Pvt. Stands was sent overseas to the European theater on February 6, 1944.
As part of Company A, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Infantry Division, Paratrooper Private Philip P. Stands was killed on D-Day in France.
After the war, his remains were returned to the United States and he was reburied at the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Section F, Block 3, Row 1, Plot 23.
