On April 28, 1943, by appropriate action the name of the post was changed to Coacher-Goetsch Post No 18 of the American Legion, Department of South Dakota, the addition of the name being that of Herman A. Goetsch, who was killed at Pearl Harbor. He was, as far as known, the first casualty from Davison County in the Second World War.
