Funeral of H.B. Burma is Held at Lennox,
Many People, Despite Bad Weather, Gather to Honor Memory of Dead Young Soldier
(Special to the Argus-Leader)
Lennox, July 9.--The funeral of H.B. Burma, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Burma, who died at Camp Funston, took place here Sunday. The service was held at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Saathaff and Dr. Burma, a cousin of the deceased, vice president of the Presbyterian college at Dubuque, Ia, officiating. Bad roads and threatening weather deprived many from paying the last respect to the dead soldier boy. Nevertheless it was by far the largest funeral procession ever witnessed in Lennox. Nearly a thousand people in single file passed by the casket to give a farewell look to the boy who died in the service of his country. He had been sick for nearly four months with a complication of diseases which finally developed into pneumonia.
Henry B. Burma was born April 26, 1896, called into service September 21, 1917. He was a member of the 314th French mortar battery. He died July 3 at the base hospital, Ft. Riley, Kan. He was a young man of good morals and respected by all who knew him.
