Captain Jacob A. Heinrich

Captain Heinrich was born September 10, 1905 at Herrick, Campbell County, South Dakota.

Death: 15 July 1942, age 36, at 3am in Barracks 9 of the hospital area, Cabanatuan Prison Camp of malaria. Jacob was one of 20 men that died that day. He was first buried in the POW Camp Cemetery, Cabanatuan, Luzon, Philippine Islands in Plot 4, Row 0, Grave 412 (Cabanatuan Burial Roster No. 906) along with 18 other men in a common grave. After the war, their remains were disinterred and brought to Manila.

He was reinterred on 12 Feb 1946, 1300 hours in the United States Armed Forces Cemetery Manila #2, Philippine Islands – Plot 3, Row 11, Grave 1415
On his left was buried the remains of:

On his right was buried the remains of:
Pvt. John C. DEACON (SN 16005485), 17th Pur Sqn, (INF) (GDR) Grave No. 1416

In July 1946 the Army Effects Bureau returned some of his personal effects to his wife including 1 coat, 1 top coat, 1 over coat, 1 belt and 1 felt hat.

He was disinterred for identification on 02 January 1948 and brought to the American Graves Registration Service Mausoleum, Manila, P. I. Hanger 813, Bay M, Crypt 4173.

One (1) identification tag was found with his remains having the inscription of: JACOB A. HEINRICH 0-257751 P and one embossed tag and two (2) cemetery tags found with the same name and serial number on it. All four (4) tags were placed with the remains. Dental records also were reviewed to help make a positive identification.

His remains were returned to the AGES Mausoleum (Hanger 813, Bay M, Crypt 4173) on 22 January 1948 at 0800 hours for storage.

S. Sgt. Earl F. JUDD (SN 32255747), Co K 305th Inf in Crypt No. 4172

His widow, Merriam E. Heinrich Smith of 500 Newell Drive Palo Alto, California had remarried on the 15th day of November 1945 to Thomas R. Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota in Washoe County, Nevada. Inasmuch as his widow had remarried and his parents were deceased, his oldest brother, Louis G. Heinrich became the person authorized "to direct the final disposition of" his brother's remains.

On 08 September 1948, his brother, Louis G. Heinrich of 429 Louie Avenue, Lodi, San Joaquin County, California, authorized the disposition of his remains "BE RETURNED TO THE UNITED STATES FOR FINAL INTERMENT IN A NATIONAL CEMETERY LOCATED AT: Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.

On 14 December 1948 his remains were prepared and placed in a casket. The casket was sealed, boxed and marked and placed in the AGRS Mausoleum to be shipped to the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.

On 22 September 1949 his brother, Louis G. Heinrich, received a message that said that the remains of the late Captain Jacob A, Heinrich was enroute to the United States, to be delivered to the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.

On Thursday, 13 October 1949 the remains of Captain Jacob A. HEINRICH was delivered by government hearse accompanied by military escort to the Golden Gate National Cemetery. There he was permanently interred in Grave No. 1224.
