Veterans returning from WW 1 organized Campbell Post 115 November 12,1919. They named the post Campbell in honor of Mark Campbell who was the first soldier killed in action from Platte, S.D. In WW 1 on July 19, 1918. After WW II the vets changed the name to Campbell-Timmerman to honor J.C. Timmerman who had been killed in action in North Africa on February 1, 1943 and was shipped back to be buried in the Platte cemetery. Temporary charter was granted December 15, 1919. The first elected officer officers were Frank McCullough, Commander:  L.H.Murty, Vice Commander:  J.L.Schalk, Adjutant and C.F Brooks, Treasurer. The meetings were held in different places in town until Dec. 9, 1920 they used a room on the second floor of building on Main Street. On March 13, 1947 purchased Slate building for $3,500 plus the building they were using at the time. The Slate building was remodeled in 1968 when the top rooms were removed. This is the present home of American Legion Post 115. Throughout the years the Post has furnished many services to the community: Provide Color Guard , Firing Squad at funerals also Memorial Day services at three local cemeteries plus a short program at the School. We also support American Legion baseball and a few other services.
