Congratulations to Connor Harvey, William Preston Huneycutt, and Robert J. Oakley, III, for being awarded scholarships from American Legion Post 74 for the coming college year of 2020-2021.
Connor is attending Coker University in Hartsville on a baseball scholarship. William Preston plans to attend Northeastern Technical College to become a Crime Scene Investigator. Robert plans to attend Coastal Carolina at Conway, S.C. with an undecided major.
During the July 2019-June 2020 year, the post held a Pancake fundraiser, sponsored a softball team, and selected high school juniors to Boys State. Members of the post served at the Soup Kitchen, participated in cancer walks, posted U. S. Flags throughout Chesterfield on holidays, and worked during Memorial Day and Veterans Day events.
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans’ organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.
