Shortly after the Charles F. Moran Post was founded in 1920 by Raymond Greenleaf, Robert Dougherty, Howard Harvey and Joseph Miller, member Gilbert McIlvaine (who succeeded Greenleaf as commander) with the Adjutant Carroll Reed designed the first School Medal.
