American Legion supports new SASHS program.
American Legion Post 223 recently donated $2000.00 to the Shippensburg Area Senior High School for the new PBIS program. Pictured, from left, are; Popst Commander Dick Guyer; Erica Frontino, secondary school counselor; and junior Vice Commander Leroy Martin. The program will be implemented in the 2015-2016 school year. Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) is a proactive approach to discipline that promotes appropriate behavior and increased learning. Traditionally, models of school discipline tend to be reactive (i.e., student misbehavior results in punitive consequences). The word 'approach'is key in that PBIS provides direction, not a canned program, for developing a comprehensive system of behavior support tailored to individual needs. The program encourages Character Honor Attitude Mindfulness and Preparedness (CHAMP).
