The American Legion Post 223 participate in the ceremonies of Highway Dedication In Honor of Local War Hero Timothy L. Hayslett May 17, 1977-November 15, 2003. The highway Rt. 233 extends from Newville Pa. to the Perry County line

Timothy L. Hayslett was born May 17, 1977, in Winston-Salem North Carolina. He moved to Newville, Pa. with his family in 1983. He attended Big Spring High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1997, where he served for six years.

Army Sgt. Timothy L. Hayslett was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st armored Division, at Friedberg, Germany. He died November 15, 2003, while on patrol in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised exploding device (IED) struck his Humvee.

Former President Ronald Reagan once said, “All we can do is remember them and what they did and why they had to be brave for us. All we can do is try to see that other young men never have to join them.” Today we unite and share a universal sense of gratitude toward Timothy for his bravery and commitment in protecting his country.

Timothy’s entire life was dedicated to serving, protecting and helping other people and it is only fitting that his name be placed on this section of highway in remembrance of a man who gave his life in service to his community
