92nd Aniversary Celebration

American Legion Post 223 celebrates the 92nd anniversary of the American Legion. All Past Commanders, Past Auxiliary Presidents were recognized and all 50 and 60 year members received a certificate and pin for their continuous years of service to the American Legion. Four members have reached the 60 year mark and they are; Dale Yocum, Bennett Bard, Frank LeRew, Gerald Wise and Brinton Comerer. Ginny Lopez, a social studies teacher, at the Shippensburg Area Senior High School was a special guest for the celebration. Ginny Lopez is presented with an award for her dedication to the veterans in the community by the Post Commander Dick Guyer. Ginny has been organizing a Veterans Day Program for the past five years. The program begins with a breakfast followed by a patriotic program in the auditorium with all the veterans and the senior class of the school. Post 223 considers Ginny Lopez a true patriot. There have been 53 commanders of Post 223 since its charter date of August 19, 1919. Forty-five are now deceased.
