Membership in the "Legion of Honor" is given in recognition of loving service rendered by the recipient to persons regardless of their race or religious faith. through it the chapel of the Four Chaplains publicly honors individuals who have been recommended to the Chapel. It hopes to encourage others to serve God and man voluntarily and unselfishly as was exemplified by the Four Chaplains.
