Shippensburg's American Legion Post 223 honored six local volunteers for their selflessness and service to their communities as part of a Chapel of Four Chaplains awards ceremony. This year's recipients are pictured left to right are Dr. Robert Zimmerman, Linda Zimmerman, Eldon Wingert, Garry Robinson, Kenneth Coleman and Robert Hovis. The award is named after the four chaplains who were aboard the USAT Dorchester, along with 902 servicemen, when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast of Greenland on the evening of Feb. 2, 1943. These chaplains gave up their life jackets, linked their arms together, braced against the deck, the chaplains went down with the ship offering prayers until the end.
