American Legion Commander visits with World War 11 Veteran. Charlie Sanders reads American legion magazines faithfully. He's been doing so for more than 50 years. when he discovered he was missing an issue he became a little upset. He began to seek information as to where to obtain a copy of the issue that he was missing. Word travels fast. Robert Ocker, canteen president of the Shippensburg VFW, learned of Mr. Sanders' need and immediately contacted his fellow comrades at the American Legion Post 223 in Shippensburg. Upon initial contact, Sanders said he would like a visit from the local Legion Commander, and his wish was granted with pride. a World War 11 veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, Sanders' face lit up as Dick Guyer, Commander of the Shippensburg post shook his hand and handed him a copy of the issue of the American Legion magazine he had requested. when Commander Guyer asked how he felt about the war in Iraq and the job our troops were doing, Sanders, replied, "It's about time they get rid of that ....!" Sanders said he feels our service men and women are doing a damn good job and he hopes the people of Iraq appreciate everything the United States is doing for them. 80 year old Sanders is a resident of Outlook Point, where although suffers from Parkinson's disease, he is still very spry and likes to keep up on local and national events as much as he can. He's quick to talk about his service in World War 11, noting that he was stationed in Okinawa Japan.
