Earlier this year, Leroy Martin and members of the American Legion Post 223 began sending letters and flags to our troops serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Members of the post organized a similar campaign when our troops were called into action during Operation Desert Storm. the flags and letters were sent in an effort to show support for our men and women our country and protecting our freedoms. The American Legion has received several thank you letters from the troops such as the following letter:

Patriots of the American Legion Post 223, I just wanted to write back and thank you for your support of us. It makes me feel proud to know that there are citizens and organizations like you/yours that understand what we do. I appreciate you guys taking the time to display that-the American Way.

I know that my grandfather, Clyde, and my dad, Stanley, were and are members of your organization. Thank you for all you did for my grandfather as his health failed and he moved to heaven.

I miss being back home. There is nothing like being back home in Pennsylvania, the beautiful state that it is. It brings a smile to my face and makes me stand a little taller knowing of your loyalty to our veterans and this country.

I cherish the flag you sent and will keep it forever. Please continue your faithful support of our nation and us.

Semper Fi,

Russell Millhouse
