This helmet is from the Elite German Imperial Guard of Kaiser Wilhelm 11
and dates to the WW1 period.
Dr. Marcuss Farr who was a Captain in the American Air Service in France
during World War 1 brought it home to Princeton, N.J., as a war souvenir.
Dr. Farr was a professor at Princeton University after the war and a close
friend of Russell Kent, also a veteran of World War 1, who lived for a time
in Princeton after the war and served a term of Commander of the American
Legion there. Dr. Farr gave the helmet to Russell.
Russell and his wife, Esther, moved to 21 Lurgan Ave. Shippensburg, in the
1960's and became close friends with Bill Burkhart American Legion Post 223
Historian. Russell and Bill enjoyed American history and once he showed Bill
the helmet saying "money would not buy it".
When Russell moved to Grants new Mexico, in 1980, Russell donated the helmet
to Bill Burkhart in turn Bill donated it to Post 223 where it is still
displayed.
