January 3,1980
American Legion Post 223 co-sponsored the program "America the Beautiful" with the VFW Post 6168 in the high school auditorium. Cost for the post $275.00 and the VFW $75.00
February 7, 1980
Death Benefits in the amount of $150.00 was paid to the beneficiaries of Irvin Wingert, John Monn and William Mark.
Essay winners were: 1st Place--John Wilson, 2nd Place--Thomas Gallas.
March 20,1980
Life membership was presented to Comrade and Charter Member Charles Kent.
April 1, 1980
$935.00 was put into the budget to support the American Legion Baseball Team.
$175.00 was used to send a Jr. High School boy to Summer Quarterback School.
May 1, 1980
$80.00 was approved to sponsor one girl to the Keystone Girls State.
Post 223 sent the following boys to Keystone Boys State: Andrew Gates, Douglas Cooper, James Freeman and Elmer Gruver.
Death benefits of $150.00 each was given to the beneficiaries of Vaughn Richardson and Ralph Mitchell.
September 18, 1980
The post donated flags to the Memorial Park, James Burd School, Newburg School, Lutheran Church, and the Girl Scouts.
October 2, 1980
Death Benefits of $150.00 each was paid to the beneficiaries of C. Hoover and Mark Goodhart.
A pledge of $500.00 was approved by the post for the improvement of the baseball field at Shippensburg Memorial Park.
November 4, 1980
The post approved $100.00 to sponsor a Midget Football Team.
December 4, 1980
The post approved that when entering the post home all hats will be removed.
A $25.00 donation was made to the Santa Clause Fund.
