A donation of $50.00 was made to the Newton Baker Veterans Hospital for their activities program, furnishing Trade Books as prizes to the veterans participating in the many activities of the hospital.
February, 1971
Thirty six bowling trophies were presented to the Veterans Hospital at Martinsburg West Virginia.
SPECIAL DONATION---Members of the Winter Duckpin Bowling League of the VA Center, Martinsburg were the recipients of a donation of $50.00 (200 canteen books) from the Oscar M. Hykes Post, American Legion, Shippensburg. Making the presentation was Post Commander Thomas Payne.
Post bowling team sent to Pa. State Legion Tournament at Lawnton Post 998.
Three thousand wooden nickels were bought by the post to celebrate the 100th Birthday of the State College.

Death Benefits of $100.00 each be paid to the beneficiaries of Guy Reed and Harold Faust.
A donation of $5.00 was made to the American Red Cross.
The Junior American Legion Baseball will be sponsored by the post again this year and was appropriated $393.00
April, 1, 1971
Post was successful in having Scott Miner admitted to the Newton Baker Veterans Hospital.
Commander Thomas Payne read a letter of appreciation from the Scotland School for the post donating money for the Spring dance.
A thank you letter was read to the post from Dr. Frank Coffey for the two flags donated to the schools.
It was recommended that the Post Adjutant send a telegram to President Nixon, asking that he take action on behalf of Lt. Calley in the recent verdict handed down by the Military Court.
Post received an invitation from Kenneth Coleman of Newburg for the post marching unit, the Minutemen, march in the Memorial Day Parade in Newburg to be held May 23, 1971.
$10.00 was donated to the Shippensburg Athletic Association.
$5.00 was donated to the Shippensburg Fly Fishing Club.
A donation of $12.50 representing one quarter page advertisement in the Convention of 1st world war Veterans magazine.

Post decided that the Bowling Program at Newton baker Veterans Hospital be continued this year at a cost of $100.00 provided by the post.
it was announced that the Scotland School Christmas Party will be held Saturday evening 4 December 1971 for the children of Cumberland County, Co-sponsored by the 40 & 8 and The Cumberland County Council with the Oscar M. Hykes Post 223. The department of Pennsylvania Christmas party at Scotland December 5.
