March, 1969
Lee Myers Jr. Chairman of the 50th Anniversary of the American Legion Committee reported on the concert held Sunday afternoon at the Shippensburg High School Auditorium in conjunction with the Shippensburg Town Band. Lee expressed his thanks to all the fine support he received and thanked the Town Band and LTC Duffield for their fine cooperation.

Post 223 was presented The American Legion Award: The Golden Year Post of Distinction Birthday Award 50th Anniversary, March 15-17, 1969.
In Recognition of an outstanding contribution to the strength of The American Legion and a continuing program of services and activities dedicated to the welfare of Community, State and Nation signed by National Commander William C. Doyle.
The Shippensburg Veterans Council made up of the VFW Post 6168, the Oscar M. Hykes Post 223 American Legion, and the Fort Morris Barracks, World War 1, held a brief Memorial Service for Gen. Dwight David Eisenhower on a Sunday afternoon. Conducting the service were, Rev. Forest Wiest, pastor of the First Church of God, who offered the invocation, Rev. William J Turner, Veterans Council Chaplain, who presented the eulogy, and Dr. Edward P. Turnbach, minister of Memorial Lutheran Church, who presented the benediction. They were flanked by American Legion Post 223 Minutemen and the VFW Post 6168 Colors and Guard. The services were held at the front entrance to Shippensburg Veterans Memorial Park.
The Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post will sponsor a band concert which is open to the public, on Sunday, March 16th starting at 2:30 P.M. in the Shippensburg Area Senior High School Auditorium. There will be no charge for the concert.
The concert, to be offered by the Town Band, under the direction of Don Bollinger, band director, has been titled " 50 years of Music and the American Legion." Presentation of the Colors will be by The American Legion Post 223.
April, 1969
The Past Commanders Night chairman announced that the Past Commanders celebration was not the success it usually was. The attendance was slim.
May, 1969
$ 300.00 was advanced to the Jr. American Legion Baseball Team to pay their insurance.
June, 1969
$100.00 was donated to the Memorial Day Parade and $110.00 loaned to the Shippensburg Veterans Council to pay parade bills.

The post purchased a 50th Anniversary Banner of the American Legion and donated American Legion magazines to local libraries.
November, 1969
The post will pay 1/3 the cost of Scotland School Christmas Party along with the 40 & 8 and the Cumberland Council.
it was announced that the post will purchase 22 baskets of fruit for the Scotland School children that will attend the Christmas party Saturday December 6, 1969 in the post Home.
The following Legion members will help with the Christmas Party: Comrades Rowles, Ramsey, Payne, Everett, Brindle, Williamson and Bufkin.
December, 1969
Post donated $15.00 Christmas baskets to the Salvation Army and $5.00 to the Cumberland County Tuber & Health Association.
Death Benefit of $100 each was paid to the beneficiary of Ralph "Doc" Norcross, to the beneficiary of Jake Wineman, and to the beneficiary of Harry Ingram, all three were members in good standing.
