January, 1951
Wilbur Minor, Chairman of the post's TOT's program, reported that a large assortment of toys had been crated and shipped by express to Philadelphia, collecting point for the Pennsylvania Department's toys for tots overseas.
Announcement was made that the post leading in the 19th District in the membership drive.
February, 1951
The post contributed $120.00 toward the American Legion 19th District Hospital Entertainment program.
Military Ball at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' Orphan School at Scotland, Pa. The ball was attended by members of the Minutemen of the post. Expenses of the ball were born by the post.
Comrade Harry Burns announced that expenses were $100.00 for total cash prizes to be awarded in the post's annual essay contest. The unds were allocated by the post.
The post contributed $16.72 to the Department's "Bob Smith Fund". This fund will benefit Pennsylvania's quadruple amputee of the Korean war.
March, 1951
The post purchased Legion Scholarship Medals to be awarded to outstanding girl and boy student of the eighth grade in the Shippensburg Public Schools.
The post paid off its final $1000.00 of the $10,000.00 pledge to the Veterans Memorial Park Commission. The $10,000.00 appropriated by the Legion post was a substantial contribution in raising the initial fund of $120,000.00 for the construction of the Memorial Park and athletic field.
April, 1951
The post sponsored the Middle Atlantic Senior Weight Lifting Contest held in the gymnasium of the State Teachers College 7 April 1951. Local weight lifters participated in the championship competition as well as those entered as representatives of the American Legion. A record crowd of fans attended the tournament. Plans for this event were under the direction of veteran weight lifter Wallace Leach.
May, 1951
The Shippensburg American Legion participated in all Memorial day programs in Shippensburg and community.
The post appropriated $120.00 for the perpetual care of three uncared for veterans lots in Spring Hill Cemetery. William Burkhart, post grave registrar, adopted the use of a wood wedge with a 3/8th hole drilled vertically in the top for use in holding flags. William Burkhart addressed the Lions Club on the post's grave registration and marking program at the club's Memorial Meeting held in the Legion meeting room 28 may, 1951.
June, 1951
The post installed air conditioning system in the social room rooms of the first floor of the building 15 West King St., the system being the final Phase of the remodeling program of the post Home.
July, 1951
The following officers were elected to serve this post for the year;

action was taken setting the salary donation of the president and secretary of the board of trustees at the same salary and/or donations as the post adjutant, the following being the salaries of the officers of board and post for the year to come as approved in open meeting;

November, 1951
The annual armistice day observance was held in the Shippensburg Public School auditorium and featured a concert in the P.M. by the Shippensburg Band and speech by an Officer from the Carlisle Army war College. The honor rolls, Bull's Eye and Memorial Park, were memorialized with flowers and a brief ceremony was conducted at the Korean honor Roll which included rifle salute and taps in the morning at 11;10 A.M.
Comrade Donald Laidig, Korean War Veteran, was present and took the obligation for membership. He was the first Korean war Veteran to join Oscar m. Hykes post.
December, 1951
The children in Scotland school from this community were brought to Shippensburg and provided a shopping tour sponsored by the post with each child allotted purchases up to $10.00 each. Following the tour a Christmas dinner was served the children of the School from the county of Cumberland. Banquet costing $102 was paid for by the post and 40 & 8 jointly. B.W. Brechbiel, Stanley Byers, William Burkhart, and Mrs B.W Brechbiel togrther with Charles Koontz, steward, supervised the entertainment for the day.
Candy and oranges were given children of town Christmas morning at the Victory Theater following the free movie. This entertainment for local children was sponsored and pais for jointly by the post ( the theater providing the movie shorts and the post the treats).
