The post sponsored as in the previous years the annual military ball for the Scotland School. The Minute Men attended the affair in uniform, this being their initial appearance in their newly acquired uniforms.
May 1949
Working with the other veteran posts of Shippensburg, the Oscar m. Hykes Post helped finance and place markers on veteran graves in Springhill Cemetery.
The post previously approved the appropriation of $10000.00 for the Memorial Park and athletic field. The first $2000.00 was reported made on the pledge.
The post secured and presented an American Flag to the colored Girl Scout Troop whose leader, Mrs. Lillian B. Daniels, accepted the flag for the troop.
A resolution supporting the retention of the books of the present Civil Service Law which gives preference to veterans in federal government jobs was read by Comrade William Burkhart and adopted unanimously. This resolution later passed in the county, pennsylvania and national assemblies of the American Legion.
