William Burkhart inserted the following note; although post minutes do not record the exact month of the transaction. It was in the past year of 1944 that the Morris Hotel Building 15 W. King St. was purchased for conversion into Oscar M. Hykes post 223. Also a state liquor license was purchased and the first floor was made into a lobby and bar. The Morrison Blue Room on the second floor was converted into a meeting room, office space, and a conference room. the old A&P store building to the west was evacuated and rented as a business location, the post retaining title to it.
