Military veterans buried in Indiana County number more than 12,200 in 177 county cemeteries.

Those veterans were honored Saturday as the county commissioners proclaimed Dec. 12 as “Honor Our Indiana County Veterans Day” and volunteers placed wreaths at noon at the entrance to each county cemetery where veterans are interred.

There was also a ceremonial wreath-laying ceremony at the courthouse veterans memorial wall.

Placing the wreath were, from left, state Rep. Cris Dush, Sheriff Bob Fyock (partially obscured), Commissioner Mike Baker and Commissioner Rod Ruddock. Churches were also encouraged to ring their bells at noon. (Kayla Grube/Gazette photo)

The project was coordinated by the Indiana County Christmas Tree Growers Association, VFW 1989 and American Legion Post 141.
