RICHARD WHITE WATSON, a son of Matthew Clark and Juliet White Watson, was born October 27, 1878. His great-great-great grandfather (Capt. John McConnel) and his great-great grandfather (Sergeant Alexander McConnell) were veterans of the Revolutionary War. His maternal grandfather (Col. Richard White) and his paternal grandfather (Regimental Commissary Sergeant James Watson) were veterans of the Civil. War.

He enlisted as a Private in the Penna. National Guard November 25, 1899. He served on the Mexican Border as Captain Q. M. Corps, Asst Division Quartermaster, 7th (Pa.) Div., U.S.N.G. Was called into Federal Service for the World War July 15, 1917, and assigned to the 7th (Pa.) Division, U.S.N.G., 28th Division, U.S.A. Was located at Sunbury, Pa.; Philadelphia, Pa.; Camp Hancock, Ga., and Camp Upton, L.I. Sailed for overseas May 2, 1918, and arrived in Liverpool, England, May 16, 1918. Arrived in France May 18, 1918. Promoted to Captain Quartermaster Corps, July 15, 1917; Maj. Adj. General's Dept.; Asst. Div. Adjutant, 28th Division July 19, 1917; Acting Division Adjutant, June 12, 1918; Lieut. Col. Adjutants General's Dept.; Division Adjutant 28th Division A.E.F., November 14, 1918. Participated in the Champagne-Marne Defensive; Aisne-Marne Offensive; Fismes Sector; Oise-Aisne Offensive; Meuse-Argonne Offensive and Thiacourt Sector. Received his honorable discharge June 2, 1919, at Camp Dix, N.J.
