On January 20, 2018, Stevens-Chute Post 4 held its oratorical contest at Inn At Cross Keys Station in Madras, Oregon. Due to the time-frame of the logistics of the contest, it was held following the District 5 Winter meeting. The contestants consisted of 4 young men from Summit High School. The contestants were 2 Juniors and 2 Freshmen from the school's Speech and Debate club. Each contestant presented an 8-10 minute prepared and 3-5 minute assigned orations on the United States Constitution. Following the presentation of the orations, Jonathan "Jack" Skidmore was named the winner. Since Stevens-Chute Post 4 was the only one to have contestants within District 5, Jonathan "Jack" was named its winner too. Jonathan "Jack" Skidmore will represent both Stevens-Chute Post 4 and District 5 at the Area 4 contest in Burns, Oregon on February 17, 2018. The Area 4 contest is the Semi-final round for the Department (State) of Oregon.
