Stevens-Chute Post 4 Commander for July, 2017-December, 2017 was William Chan. The Post Adjutant for that time-frame is Lara Chan. William Chan is a 23 year Military retiree originally from Eugene, Oregon. He served both Active Duty and Selected Reserve status with the United States Navy and Marine Corps following graduation from Eugene's Winston Churchill High School June 24, 1991 to July 17, 1998 and July 6, 1999 to July 31, 2015. His assignments in the Navy and Marine Corps took him throughout Southern California; Okinawa, Japan; Parris Island, South Carolina; South Korea; Hawaii; Alaska; Italy; and other locations around the United States. William served both the United States Navy and Marine Corps as an Administrative Officer, Administrative Clerk, Supply and Logistics, and Military Police. During his time in the military, William Chan received his Masters of Business Administration from University of Phoenix in 2007, Bachelors of Science in Political Science with Business Administration Minor from the University of Oregon in 1998, and Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree from Lane Community College in 1997. Additionally, William Chan works in the Marketing and Advertising department for Navy Recruiting District Portland from May 23, 1999 to the Present. In addition to his position as Stevens-Chute Post 4 Commander, William Chan is currently the Department of Oregon (State) Assistant Sgt-At-Arms (July, 2015-Present), Oregon Boys State Committee Chair (July, 2015-Present), Department Constitution and By-Laws Committee member, and District 5 Vice Commander South (July 1, 2016-Present). Previously, Mr. Chan was Department Legislative Commission member (July, 2015-June 30, 2017), Department Centennial Committee member (2016-June 30, 2017), Department Junior Shooting Sports Committee member (2016-June 30, 2017), District 5 Chaplain (July 1, 2014-June 30, 2016) and Post 44 Ray Johnson (Redmond) Commander (July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014), Post 44 Ray Johnson (Redmond) Post 44 (Redmond) First Vice Commander (July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013), Oregon Boys State Committee/Commission member (October, 2012-July, 2015), and Oregon Beaver Boys State citizen sponsored by Post 3 (Eugene) (June, 1990). William Chan is a graduate of The National American Legion College, Charles E. Schmidt Class of 2016. Commander Chan is the first Persian Gulf and Global War on Terrorism Veteran to serve in this high office.  On, December 31, 2017, both Post 4 Commander and Adjutant William and Lara Chan resigned their positions.  Both William and Lara Chan moved to Virginia to pursue career opportunities.  Vice Commander Keegan Hodges was elected on November 21, 2017 as Post 4 Commander.  Keegan will start his term on January 1, 2018 to complete the rest of the 2017-2018 American Legion year.
