On February 11, 2017, The American Legion Department of Oregon's Area 4 High School Oratorical Contest took place at American Legion Post 19 in The Dalles, Oregon. Stevens-Chute Post 4 and District 5 winner Danielle Axten from Summit High School competed against La Grande Post 43 and District 6 winner from Imbler High School Emily Faulk. Emily is the 2015-2016 American Legion Department of Oregon High School Oratorical Runner-Up. Both contestants gave prepared and assigned orations on the United States Constitution. After both ladies gave their orations, Danielle became the 2016-2017 American Legion Department of Oregon's Area 4 winner. Danielle will compete against the Area 1, 2, and 3 winners at the Department of Oregon's contest at the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA) in Salem on March 4, 2017.
