At the Department of Oregon convention in Seaside, Oregon, Stevens-Chute Post 4 Historian Dick Tobiason and Chaplain Joe Gallagher received Legionnaire and Chaplain of the Year.
Dick Tobiason received his award as Legionnaire of the Year by providing a wide range of activities. Tobiason founded and is the Board Chair of the Bend Heroes Foundation. The foundation organizes Honor Flights for World War II Veterans to Washington, DC. While in the Nation's capitol, these honored Veterans see the World War II Memorial. Additionally, Dick provided legislation to designate Interstate 84 as the Vietnam Veterans Highway.
Joe Gallagher received his award as Chaplain of the Year by spearheading Post 4's home and hospital visitation program. Gallagher would identify infirm or ill Veterans and visit them on a ongoing basis. He put together the Four Chaplains program. Additionally, Joe conducted a special recognition dinner for a Wounded Warrior.
