Legion:

This was the year to begin a big push to find a Post Home. Commander Perkins wrote “Remember this Post is on the move. It is going to need its own Post building before the next year is over.” The Fire Dept. did not honor our bid for the Aloha Fire Station. We utilized five Real Estate Firms to look for property.

Last year’s Boys Staters came to the Feb 6 meeting to share their experience, and assist with recruiting for the next year.

In April we did meet goal.

On May 23 we held a Roast Beef Dinner to support our Boy’s State Program. The cost to the Post was $90 for each Boy. The profits from the dinner determined how many we could send this year.

On May 25th we laid a wreath of Poppies at the base of the Flag Pole at the West Union Cemetary.

On June 14, we conducted a Flag Retirement ceremony at Aloha High School.

At the end of the year, we paid off all outstanding debts and earned $5,000 for our treasury. We exceeded our membership goal with 127 members. We did not reach our goal to have a Post Home by the end of the year.

This year the State Convention was in Albany Oregon from June 23 – 26.

Auxiliary:

Betty Long reported a need for supplies for the Portland VA Hospital, like cakes, cookies, pies, slippers, pencils, tooth paste, etc.

July accomplishments – The treasury reached $1,000. We exceeded 200% of goal with 53 members. The unit supported two girls from Aloha High School to attend Girls State. We donated $160 to Special Olympics. At the VA we worked a Bingo party, supported Poppy Days, donated money for the gift shop, mailed cards, and gifts to our adopted veteran, and other items such as cakes and cookies.

The Top Notch Tavern helped us by hosting a chili cook off on Halloween evening. Several members assisted and as a result we earned $40 for the Unit.

Lucky Lunow turned in more money than any other Auxiliary member for poppy donations.

In November we held a Spaghetti Feed at the regular meeting. We netted about $55 for this event.

We participated in the VA Gift Shop ribbon cutting on Dec 7. We supported this as one of the main programs of The American Legion.

As District President, Leona Martin conducted her official visit on Feb 6. Last year’s Girl State participates joined us to share their experience.

We participated in the Hillsboro Happy Days 4th of July Parade. We entered a float with the theme of “Who are We?”

The Department President scheduled an official visit at the April 3rd meeting.
