Lawrence F. Roy Commander 1986-1987 Department of Oklahoma From Carter C. Hanner-Mamon G. Sharp Post 129 Stillwater, Oklahoma

Lawrence F. Roy, Stillwater Okla. Post 129 is a Paid Up For Life member of The American Legion and has been a active member for over 64 years. Post 129 Adjutant for the last 21 years and was Chairman of the highly successful Post 129 Baseball Committee. He also currently serves on the State Americanism Committee which is responsible for the Oklahoma Baseball Program and other youth programs.
Roy was elected National Vice-Commander in 1991, served on the National Executive Committee from Oklahoma for eight years, 1993-2001, Department of Oklahoma Commander 1986-1987~ Post Commander for three different terms and has held District Commander and Department Executive Committee Positions, as well as, most all Post positions.

Past Commander Roy served two years on active duty with the famed Oklahoma 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Oklahoma National Guard for over 35 years, starting his career as a private in 1946 with the Guard in Tishomingo, Okla. He progressed through all the enlisted ranks and served as 1st Sgt. on active duty in Japan and Korea. He served in numerous Staff and Command Positions completing his career as the Commanding General of the 45th Infantry Brigade in 1983. .
Among his military decorations and awards received are the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Legion of Merit, Army Meritorious Service Award, Oklahoma Meritorious Service Medal, Oklahoma Commendation Medal and many others.

He is a graduate of Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University, with a BS degree in Agriculture, received a BA degree from Southeastern. He was employed for 36 years with
Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He retired from the USDA in June, 1986 and became active in a Construction Equipment business of which he was a part owner. In addition to Legion activities Roy now manages the family farm and rental business.
Lawrence Roy and his wife, Joelene have been married for over 65 years, have seven children and twenty eight grandchildren.
Lawrence F. Roy has played an important role in Post 129 history. For year 2001 he is a 49 year member of the American Legion and a Korean War veteran. Since 1995 he served as Post 129 Adjutant and chaired the baseball committee.

Lawrence served as Post 129 Commander three times and was state Commander of the Legion in 1986-87. In 1991 he was elected American 'Legion National Vice Commander representing 14 southern states. In 2001, he serves as Chairman of Oklahoma Veterans Commission and completes a total of 8 years as American Legion's representative on the commission which works for all Oklahoma Veterans. He was elected and served as Oklahoma's representative on the National American Legion Executive Committeman for years 1993 to 2001. Lawrence has been a key member in most Post 129 activities, including communications, membership, meetings and especially the management of the Stillwater American Legion business at 607 South Main. He also served in the Oklahoma National Guard for 36 years and retired in 1988 as a Brigadier General.
