Viet Nam Soldier Asks for books to be sent to his fellow Glen Este HS
graduates then serving in Viet Nam.
Jerry’s efforts started an avalanche of books being sent per his request.
Then Spec. 4 Gerald Beckman said in part...”I’ve been trying to get books for over a month now, but I didn’t know anyone who could get them for me. I knew that you wouldn’t let a bunch of lonely GI’s down. Kaffenburg, Glen Este Student Council Advisor turned the plea over to the GE student council with an almost instant response from the entire Student Body. Within three days after the launch of the book drive, over 150 books were collected with more on the way.
Jerry was , at the time , stationed with the 125th Signal Battalion at Cu Chi as a communications operator .
