The U.S. Postal Service and the Office of Congresswoman Deborah Ross for a special dedication ceremony honoring the late Mrs. Millie Dunn Veasey, as we officially rename the Brentwood Post Office in her honor. On Friday, May 9th at 10:00 am, the Raleigh post office on Brentwood Road was officially named the “Millie Dunn Veasey Post Office.” The Celebration was held at the church she attend the St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, 813 Darby St, Raleigh, NC 27610. This event recognizes Mrs. Veasey’s extraordinary legacy as a World War II veteran and pioneering civil rights leader. As a member of the historic 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion-the only all-Black, all-female unit to serve overseas during the war. Mrs. Veasey played a vital role in ensuring soldiers received letters from home, lifting morale on the front lines. The late Mrs. Millie Dunn Veasey, was a life member and the Past Adjutant of The Charles T. Norwood American Legion Post 157. Her lifelong commitment to service and advocacy continues to inspire our community and nation.
