A POW/MIA Empty Chair is placed at all official meeting of The American Legion as a physical symbol of the thousands of American POW/MIAs still unaccounted for from all wars and conflicts involving the United States of America.
The first and second vice commanders approach the empty chair with the folded POW/MIA flag. They reverently unfold the flag and drape it over the chair with the crest facing the membership.

The Installing Officer Legionnaire Patricia Harris, Alternate National Executive Committeeman, Past District Commander, Past Department Commander, Past Post 124 (Apex) First Vice Commander and Past Post 157 Commander, will conducted the ceremony with Post Commander James Langston.
Legionnaire Patricia Harris was the first female Post Commander (2005-2007) of The Charles T. Norwood American Legion Post 157 and today 7 June 2025 she will install Legionnaire Gabriel Carr as the second female Post Commander of The Charles T. Norwood American Legion Post 157.

The Installing Officer, Legionnaire Patricia Harris, preformed the swearing in of the newly elected / reelected officers. She took control of the meeting informed Legionnaire Lloyd Dunn acting Sergeant-at-arms to bring forward newly elected officers to be installed / reinstalled. She read the Oath of Office to the newly elected officers as they took the pledge to perform faithfully and impartially the duties of the office in The American Legion that they assume.

James Langston, Past Post Commander as acting Sergeant-at-Arms steps forwards, picked up the POW-MIA flag off the chair, folds the flags, steps back and places the POW-MIA flag on the table in front of the commander. After the meeting is concluded, the pow/mia flag is refolded and stored for future use.
After retiring the POW/MIA flag, the commander gave the command to salute. Everyone came to attention and rendered a hand salute. Post Commander says “Two" and then declares the meeting adjourned with one tap of the gavel.
