Gould Lyman was the first Commander of the group of veterans already organized in Alexandria Bay as a veterans service organization at the founding of the American Legion in New York. This group of veterans voted at their meeting of The Great War Veterans of America to become an American Legion Post. The post is named after his brother John who was KIA in France. His mother was the President of both the State and National organization" Gold Star Mothers"'. Gould would bring the Department of New York American Legion Convention to Alexandria Bay in 1924. He was both County Commander and Fifth District Commander. His leadership in many ways led the Post, County, District, Department and National in efforts to serve veterans and the communities they lived in.
