SENECA FALLS WELCOMES Its Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Home, July 11, 1919, Large Celebration Planned, Parade On Fall Street, The soldiers, sailors and marines gathered for a monster parade and gala day during which they received the formal welcome home of this community. The various committees in charge of the celebration made diligent efforts to have every World War veteran present at the time and they were urged to don their uniforms. A special committee canvassed the veterans to make certain that they would appear in uniform. Many of these men had resolved never to don a uniform of any kind, unless called again to the colors. The recollections of their war experiences were entirely too vivid, too well remembered to make the uniform attractive. The committee in charge of that phase of the celebration, overruled many objections and the result was that hundreds of men appearing in uniform, for the parade and celebration after.

In the formal proceedings of the welcome home program, Hon. Norman G. Gould made the principal address. Mr. Gould was the representative in Congress from the 36th Congressional District before and all during the World War period.
