On August 15, 1919 the Post applied for its charter. The members selected Dr, Frank Overton as the first Commander. The members of the Post decided to name the Post after the village it is located in, thus Patchogue Post 269 was formed. Although there have been discussions over the years about changing the name of the Post, it remains Patchogue Post 269 in keeping with what the original members decided upon.
