After seven years of seemingly impossible hurdles to jump, project setbacks the loss of our original bar manager and a scourge of a pandemic, The Lounge at the James E. Coffey Post 3, American Legion is again open for business.
Commander John York and the post’s House Committee announced that The Lounge at the Coffey Post will reopen Thursday, June 2 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will be open again on Friday, June 3 from 4 to 10 p.m.
Patrons will immediately notice some important differences when they enter the Lounge. The Lounge will be open to members of all veterans organizations including The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. Members of these organizations must show a current membership ID card to be admitted.
The Lounge is a non-smoking venue and it is now handicapped accessible.  While the menu of draft beers is limited to four of the most popular brands, a wide variety of bottled and canned beers will also be available. Also offered will be a variety of mixed drinks.
Completion of the renovations of the bar has been a concerted effort by members of the House Committee and contractors to reach this final goal, said committee chair, Sr. Vice Commander Donald Dillaby, who noted that hours of The Lounge will be expanded in the future as demand warrants.
