
Members of James E. Coffey Post 3, American Legion, VFW Post 483 and several non-affiliated veterans attended ceremonies at Birch Hill Elementary School, 17 Birch Hill Drive, Nashua the day before Veterans Day.
The impressive program began with rendering of colors carried by Legion Post 3 members; Robert Courtemanche, Senior Vice Commander (American flag); Donald Vincent, Junior Vice Commander (Legion flag); Barbara Courtemanche, Post 3 Auxiliary member (Auxiliary flag); Kathy Vincent, Auxiliary member (POW/MIA flag).
Following his opening remarks, principal Mark Lucas introduced and recognized the local veterans in attendance.
Grade 5 students explained why we celebrate Veterans Day read the poem 'In Flanders Field' and placed a wreath at the podium to commemorate the war dead. A film entitled "I Fought For You" was played which stressed to the students the importance of recognizing and thanking the nations' veterans for their service to our country and its citizens.
Musical selections by the student band and chorus included; "Regency Fanfare", "American Tears", "The Star Spangled Banner", the Pledge of Allegiance, "Taps" and echo "Taps", "We Will Not Forget", "God Bless America", and "Recognition March"
After concluding remarks by principal Lucas, the colors and the visiting veterans marched out into the hallway where they greeted and were thanked individually by each and every student and teacher.
