On Sunday, Feb 192003, members from the American Legion Post 76, located in Scarborough, Maine, paid a group visit to the James E. Coffey Post 3 on 11 Court St., Nashua.
As a result of a personal invitation from Post 3 members Phil and Brenda Jepson, fourteen people arrived in a motor home.  They were accompanied by a couple from the Legion Post in Ft. Ticonderoga, New York.  Lynn and Arlene are living in Scarborough, but are working together in Portland on a temporary assignment.  His father is a Pat Commander of the Ft. Ticonderoga Post.
Our visitors were given a welcome tour of our Post home.  It was also a day when the post was conducting a 'Meat Bingo Giveaway' as a fund-raising event.  Our guests played and enjoyed the game immensely for it was their first experience with this type of post entertainment.  Many friendships  were quickly made and a few winners went home with many, many pounds of meat and special prizes - including a 10 pound live lobster!  Appetizers and food - shrimp, meatballs - provided by several local members made it a fun-filled day to remember.
Their post home in Scarborough is an old farmhouse located near an industrial park.  They own several acres of land and plan to sell a few acres in order to build a new home for Post 76.  To help raise funds for the new location, the 'Meat Give Away' is going to be their first project, as well as a continuing event in the coming months.
It was a historic visit of people sharing experiences and past memories, reinforcing the true meaning of 'comradeship' among its members, both near and afar, in our national organization - The American Legion.
