Kathryn 'Kay' Denise Winn, 89, died on Wednesday morning Jan 2, 2002 at the Courville nursing home Nashua, after a lengthy illness.  A registered nurse and a WWII veteran, she retired in 1975 as the head school nurse for the city of Nashua.
The following is an extracted letter to the editor of the Nashua Telegraph.
"The late Kay Winn was a member of the James E. Coffey Post of Nashua for 55 years.  After serving her country as a nurse in the front-line hospitals throughout the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, Kay returned home to serve her community of Nashua as a registered nurse in the Nashua school system.
She complemented this service by devoting 17 years to the Coffey Post's child welfare program.
Her efforts were recognized by the legion's Department of New Hampshire and the National American Legion many times over the years of her service.
Kay's proximity to the young people of Nashua Made her aware of their plight.  Many grocery orders, shoes, galoshes, clothes, Christmas baskets and many times other forms of financial aid were provided by the Coffey Post upon her direction.
In many instances, she salvaged homes that would otherwise have been lost.
Farewell comrade, and thank you for a job well done."
