Since 1927, Patrick "Buddy Hughes has been associated with the game of baseball. With his retirement this year from his position as an assistant at Nashua High School, Hughes leaves 67 years of on-field contributions.
He was a batboy, player, coach and manager in New Hampshire, Maine, Ohio, Illinois, and overseas while in the service.
His name will henceforth be attached to the American Legion's outstanding player award. Hughes, the Nashua American Legion Coffey Post 3 coash for 21 years, presented the first Buddy Hughes Award last week to Legion player Dan Paul.
The award recognizes the player who demonstrated outstanding performance, attitude, leadership, sportsmanship and dedication. The plaque will remain at the Post.
