
East Hartford , Conn., rallied for four runs in the ninth to post a 6-5 victory over Nashua's Coffey Post 3 for the Northeast American Legion Baseball Championship Sunday, Aug 17 at the University of Maine in Orono, ME.
East Hartford, which defeated Hoboken, NJ, 7-6 earlier in the day, will represent the Northeast Region in the American Legion World Series beginning Wednesday in Boyertown, PA.
Trailing 6-3, East Hartford loaded the bases in the ninth without a hit. Tony Palombizio walked, Dave Caruso was hit by a pitch and Dan Catlin walked.
Stu Perry followed with a run-scoring single. One out later, winning pitcher Chris Sawyer tied the game with a two-run double.
With runners at second and third, a ground-out to short by Ron Jimenez scored Perry from third with the winning run. Nashua stranded the tying run on second in the bottom of the ninth.
Coffey Post, which finished its season at 34-4, scored a first inning run on Greg Coy's single, plating Nate Boudreau.
A three run fifth gave Coffey Post a 4-2 lead. Coy tripled home Boudreau and Chris Martin. With Coy on third, Ryan Anderson delivered an RBI single.
In the seventh, Anderson drove in Coy with a single to pad Nashua's cushion to 5-2.
Sawyer, named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, allowed eight hits, two walks and fanned nine for a complete game victory. Sawyer was 11 for 27 at the plate in the tourney.
Dan Greene started for Nashua and allowed eight hits, two runs, two walks and fanned one.
