Boy Scout Troop 3 of Nashua has won the annual American Legion award for the most outstanding troop in the state sponsored by an American Legion Post. The award represents excellent achievements and participation in various activities and events sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America and the American Legion. The award was given to Charles Mann, commander of the James E. Coffey Post No. 3 at the American Legion State Convention held recently in Nashua. Byron Pitarys, post adjutant, and Don Desrosiers, institutional representative for the post, then presented the award to Scoutmaster Steve Pecoraro for the troop. The troop played an important part in the success of the convention by running a hot dog and hamburger stand, cleaning up after convention meetings, and marching in the parade. Other community service projects and recognitions include helping at the Girls Club walk-a-thon by manning the check points, help in the bicycle safety program at the library, winning an award at the Boy Scout Camperee, and putting on a fundraising weatern night dance.
