"Spurred by a three-way race for commander, and other contests, the James E. Coffey Post, American Legion, set an attendance record for a monthly meeting last night, with more than 125 present.

The commander-elect is Ernest E. Ledoux (pictured), past commander of the Coffey Post and District 2, and a former state vice commander.

Ledoux polled 86 votes, Andrew Rasmussen gained 33, and Commander Byron Pitarys, who presided, got only 7 votes.

The new post officers and those of the auxiliary will be installed in joint ceremonies tomorrow night.

It was indicated in the crowded hall that attendance may have neared 150-mark as there were Legionnaires entering or leaving the facility during the extended meeting. The post has 1,100 members.

REJECT DUES PLAN

In other business, the members by a three-vote margin rejected a motion to raise the yearly dues from $8 to $9 to meet increasing operation expenses. It was reported that $5.50 of the $8 goes to the national and state departments.

The closing business was the election of post delegates and alternates to the state convention to be held in Dover, June 24, 25, and 26."

"Climaxing this election was the selection of three of five candidates for executive committeemen. the tally showed: Benedict Hargreaves, 93; Robert Farrell, 92; Chester McKuskie, 52; William Baker, 41; and Ernest Leblanc, 35.

Elected convention delegates were Felix Ratoff, McDonald, Raymond Burns, Albert Coffey, Farrell, Gary Johnson, A. Charles Lindsay, Bozek, Rasmussen, Hargreaves, Roland Brisson, as well as Pitarys, Ledoux, Royal Miller and John Bisset.

The alternates are Craig Johnson, LeBlanc, Desrosiers and McCarthy.

The post went on record as endorsing John Bisset, past post and state commander, for re-election as national alternate executive committeeman at the state convention.

Commander Pitarys received a standing ovation in a closing address when he thanked various members and committees for their assistance during his term of office. He cited the younger members, veterans of the Vietnam War, and urged them to participate in post activities."
